The founder and CEO of Clevis AI says many farmers are finding increased efficiency using artificial intelligence.

Preston Schrader, who’s a former crop advisor in central Illinois, says the technology can offer insight into everything from agronomy and marketing to bookkeeping and equipment.

“Information is power.”  He says, “When you think about a farmer, a small business, the more information, the easier it is for you to make decisions and maneuver. And one of our goals is to give the farmer the tools to make those decisions in real time while they still have the chance to impact the outcome.”

He tells Brownfield that AI can help unlock the value of the mountains of data gathered by a modern farming operation.

“For the last 15 years, farmers have got all this data and it’s like, what do you do with this data?”  He says, “I think in the next 15 years, farmers should overestimate how valuable their data is.”

He says Clevis AI was designed with grain farmer input to allow all of an operation’s data to flow into a central location.

“Only a farmer knows what a Clevis means, right? It’s a pin that connects the tractor to the implement.”  He says, “The whole idea of Clevis AI is to connect every aspect of a farming operation, and we made a decision that any recommendation Clevis gives needs to be rooted in a specific farm’s profitability.”

As margins tighten, Schrader says more farmers are turning to AI for better insights into profitably managing their operations.
